- B. Wesley Switzer was born and raised in the village of Sutton West, Ontario, Canada. He attended Elementary and Secondary School there up to the end of grade XII after which it was necessary to go to Newmarket High School for grade XIII. He graduated in Electrical Engineering from the Faculty of Applied Science, the University of Toronto. After working in industry for two years, he enrolled in the College of Education and received both academic and vocational certificates. He began teaching in September 1933 in a two room grade B Continuation School in Sunderland, Ontario, Canada where he taught all the Mathematics, Science and Grammar. The teaching day of twelve periods was from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm. After four enjoyable years, he was approached to become a staff-member of the Kirkland Lake Collegiate and Vocational School where he taught Electricity, Mathematics and Science to the Technical classes. In 1944, he became the acting Shop Director. In 1946, he moved to the Peterborough Collegiate and Vocational School as Technical Director, a position that he held for nine years. In 1955, he became Principal of the Kenner Collegiate in Peterborough. The next year, in 1956, he was appointed the Principal of the Brantford Collegiate and Vocational School, a position which he held for nine years, after which he became a city inspector. When the County System was begun in Ontario, he became Superintendent of both Elementary and Secondary Schools for the North Area of Brant County. He retired on January 1, 1971.
